How can stylists and massage therapists protect their posture?

The short answer

Hands-on work means standing or leaning for hours, arms raised or reaching, usually favoring a dominant side. Over time the body can adapt to those positions, and most people don’t realize it is happening. AlignSmart® measures 20 points of your alignment and gives you a Symmetry Score, so you can see where your body has adapted and build a plan to keep it balanced.

Dealing with back pain, shoulder pain, sciatica or hip pain?

Many people in this position live with back pain, neck and shoulder pain, sciatica or hip pain and never find out whether their alignment is part of the picture. AlignSmart® doesn’t diagnose or treat any condition. It measures how your body is balanced, so you and your care team can see whether alignment may be contributing.

If you are in pain, talk with your doctor too. Alignment data works best alongside the care you already have.

Why is hands-on work so hard on the body?

You spend the day giving your body to your clients. Raised arms, a dominant hand and long stretches on your feet repeat the same loads thousands of times.

Good technique and self-care help, but they can’t show how your body is actually aligned. Measuring does.

Common patterns in hands-on work

Arms raised or reaching

Working at shoulder height or higher keeps the shoulders loaded.

On your feet

Standing and shifting weight for hours can pull the hips off balance.

Leaning into the work

A forward lean over the client rounds the shoulders and neck.

One dominant side

Working mostly with one hand builds a lopsided pattern.

How does AlignSmart® help?

Symmetry for Health follows four steps, built around prevention rather than waiting for pain.

  1. MeasureThe patented AlignSmart® device captures 20 points across three planes of motion and produces your Symmetry Score, from 0 to 81.
  2. EducateYour practitioner shows you exactly where your body is compensating and why, in plain language.
  3. CorrectYou get a custom correction plan built for your structure, not a generic handout.
  4. EmpowerYou learn how to keep your alignment, so the changes last.

Does this replace my own bodywork or my provider?

No. AlignSmart® works alongside your self-care, bodywork and care team. It adds a measurement of your structural alignment that none of them provide on their own.

Your questions, answered

Why do stylists and massage therapists struggle with their bodies?

The work repeats the same positions for hours, often favoring one side. That repetition can shape how the body is balanced, and most people don’t notice until it becomes a problem.

Can I tell if my body is out of alignment on my own?

Not reliably. Most people don’t realize they are misaligned, and even a slight degree can cause problems. That is why Symmetry for Health uses objective measurement rather than a visual guess.

Can alignment affect back pain, shoulder pain, sciatica or hip pain?

Alignment can be one piece of the picture. When the body is out of balance it compensates, and that can show up as back, shoulder or hip pain, or pain that travels the way sciatica does. Symmetry for Health is not a medical provider and does not diagnose, so see your doctor about pain. AlignSmart® adds objective alignment data.

What happens in an AlignSmart® assessment?

Your practitioner measures 20 points across three planes of motion, explains your Symmetry Score and what it shows, and builds a correction plan around your structure.

I already see a chiropractor, PT or massage therapist. Should I still come in?

Yes, if you want to see your alignment data. AlignSmart® is designed to work alongside your existing care team.

I give massages. Why would I need an assessment?

Giving care all day doesn’t show you how your own body is aligned. Many practitioners find it useful to see their data so they can protect their own posture.

Where can I get measured near Sacramento?

Symmetry for Health is in Folsom, CA, and serves people from Roseville, El Dorado Hills, Granite Bay, Rocklin, Cameron Park and greater Sacramento.

Pain areas people come to us about, and what better alignment can change.

People come to Symmetry for Health with jaw and neck pain, headaches, shoulder and upper back pain, elbow, wrist and hand pain, mid back and low back pain, sciatica, tailbone and pelvic pain, hip pain, knee pain, and ankle and foot pain. Others come for spinal curves, scoliosis patterns, disc-related back pain, or strains and injuries that keep coming back. Pain often shows up far from where it starts, so measuring the whole body matters. See everyone we help.

Move better

When your joints stack the way they were designed to, everyday movement, workouts and play take less effort.

Sleep better

Many people report sleeping more comfortably once their body stops working so hard to compensate.

Feel better

Less strain can mean more energy, better focus and an easier mood through the day.

Lower your injury risk

Measuring alignment shows where your body is overloaded, so you can address it before it becomes a strain or sprain.

AlignSmart® does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. If you have pain, talk with your doctor. Alignment data works best alongside the care you already have.
