Can posture alignment be behind chronic pain?
It can be one of the factors. When the body is out of alignment, some joints and muscles carry loads they weren’t built for, and the pain often shows up away from where the problem started. That is why symptom-focused care can bring relief that doesn’t last. AlignSmart® is a patented posture assessment that measures 20 points and gives you a Symmetry Score, so a practitioner can see the pattern and build a correction plan around your structure. It is not a diagnosis, and it works alongside your doctor, chiropractor or physical therapist.
Why does my pain keep coming back?
Think of a car that pulls to one side. You can keep replacing the worn tire, but until the alignment is fixed, the tire keeps wearing out. The body works the same way. Pain is where the problem shows up. It isn’t always where it starts.
A tight hip changes how the knee tracks. The knee changes how the ankle loads. The low back picks up the slack. After a while the body adapts around the imbalance, and that adaptation can become the new normal, and the new source of pain.
Most people don’t realize they are misaligned, and even a slight degree can cause problems. It takes objective measurement to see it.
Where alignment can show up as pain
Everyday habits like sitting, favoring one side, old injuries and repetitive motion pull the body out of balance. Here is where people often feel it.
Low back & hips
Hours of sitting and an uneven pelvis can load the low back and hips unevenly.
Neck & shoulders
Hunched or forward-head posture at a desk or phone can keep the neck and shoulders working overtime.
Knees & ankles
A shift higher up the chain can change how the knees and ankles take load with every step.
Headaches & tension
Tension that builds through the neck and upper back can be linked to how the body is aligned.
The difference between guessing and knowing
Most approaches rely on observation and intuition. AlignSmart® adds data.
Traditional approach
- Visual assessment: alignment is estimated by eye
- Generic exercises: the same handout for most people
- Symptom-focused: looks at where it hurts, not why
AlignSmart® at Symmetry
- Patented device captures 20 precise measurements
- Custom plan built around your body’s imbalances
- Root-cause focused: looks at the structure behind the symptom
Already seeing a chiropractor, PT or doctor?
Keep going. AlignSmart® is designed to work with your care team, not replace it. Your chiropractor or physical therapist can keep doing what they do best, and the measurement of your structural alignment adds information none of them are set up to provide.
If you take pain medication, please talk with your doctor before making any changes. Nothing on this page replaces their advice.

Chronic pain questions, answered
Can poor posture cause chronic pain?
It can contribute. Misalignment makes some areas work harder than they should, and over time that extra load can show up as pain, often away from where the imbalance began.
Why does my pain keep coming back after adjustments or physical therapy?
Relief that doesn’t last can mean the underlying pattern hasn’t changed. Measuring your alignment shows where your body is compensating, so the plan can address the source as well as the symptom.
Is AlignSmart® a replacement for my chiropractor or physical therapist?
No. It is designed to work alongside your existing care. It adds objective alignment data and a correction plan built around your structure.
Do I have to be in pain to come in?
No. Many people come in to find out where they stand and to get ahead of problems before pain starts.
What is a Symmetry Score?
It is a number from 0 to 81 that shows how well your body is structurally aligned, based on the 20 points AlignSmart® measures. It becomes the foundation of your correction plan.
