Got Questions? We Have Answers.
Everything you need to know about AlignSmart® technology, what to expect at your assessment, and how the Symmetry for Health approach works — all in one place.
Understanding the Technology
AlignSmart® is a patented postural assessment and corrective exercise system developed right here at Symmetry for Health in Folsom, CA. It uses a specialized device to capture 20 precise anatomical measurements across three planes of motion — front-to-back, side-to-side, and rotational — to objectively quantify your body's structural alignment.
Unlike traditional assessments that rely on visual estimates or practitioner intuition, AlignSmart removes all guesswork. The measurements generate your unique Symmetry Score (0–81) and a customized correction plan engineered specifically for your body.
Chiropractic and physical therapy are valuable treatments — and we actively encourage our clients to continue working with their existing care providers. The key difference is that AlignSmart® is data-driven and home-based.
Traditional therapies typically require ongoing in-office visits to maintain results. AlignSmart® gives you a precise, personalized correction routine you perform at home — so your progress continues between (and after) any other care you receive. The goal is to make you structurally independent, not dependent on any single provider.
Your Symmetry Score is a number between 0 and 81 that quantifies how closely your body's structural alignment matches an ideal, balanced posture. A score of 81 represents perfect symmetry across all measured planes of motion. Most people score somewhere in the middle, and the score serves as your measurable baseline.
As you follow your correction routine, your Symmetry Score improves — giving you an objective, trackable way to see your progress over time. It is one of the most powerful parts of the AlignSmart® system because it turns something as complex as posture into a clear, understandable number.
Yes. AlignSmart® holds a U.S. patent for its postural assessment methodology. The technology was developed by Symmetry for Health founder Patrick Mummy and has been refined through years of clinical application right here in Folsom, CA.
Symmetry for Health is not just a clinic that uses AlignSmart® — we are the headquarters and birthplace of the technology. Every innovation and update originates from our team.
AlignSmart® is designed to address structural imbalances and postural compensation patterns that contribute to chronic pain and limited mobility. It has been used effectively with clients experiencing back pain, neck pain, hip and knee issues, shoulder problems, and general postural dysfunction.
It is important to note that AlignSmart® is not a medical treatment and does not diagnose or treat specific medical conditions. If you have a diagnosed condition, we encourage you to consult with your physician and share your AlignSmart® results with your care team — many providers find the objective data extremely useful in guiding their own treatment plans.
What to Expect
Your initial assessment appointment is approximately 60 minutes. This includes the full AlignSmart® measurement process, a review of your Symmetry Score and report, an explanation of your structural findings, and a walkthrough of your personalized correction routine.
We never rush the first visit. Understanding your results and feeling confident about your routine is the most important outcome of that first appointment.
Please wear form-fitting athletic clothing — leggings, bike shorts, a fitted t-shirt, or a sports bra. The AlignSmart® device takes precise anatomical measurements, and loose or baggy clothing can interfere with accuracy.
You do not need to bring anything special. If you have any recent imaging (X-rays, MRIs) or medical records related to your pain, you are welcome to bring them — they can be helpful context, but they are not required.
Not at all. The AlignSmart® assessment is completely non-invasive. The device takes external measurements of your body's alignment — there is no manipulation, no needles, no pressure, and no discomfort involved.
Most clients describe the process as straightforward and even eye-opening — many are surprised to see just how much their body has been compensating without them realizing it.

If your provider referred you, feel free to let us know at your appointment — we are happy to share your results with your care team if you authorize us to do so.
What Results Can I Expect?
Results vary based on the severity of your structural imbalances, how consistently you perform your routine, and how long the imbalances have been present. That said, many clients report noticeable improvements within 4–8 weeks of consistent daily practice.
Because AlignSmart® gives you an objective Symmetry Score, you can actually measure your progress over time — not just feel it. Follow-up assessments allow you to see exactly how your alignment has changed since your first visit.
Unlike traditional therapy models, Symmetry for Health is designed to minimize your dependency on in-office visits. After your initial assessment, most clients return for a follow-up reassessment every 4–8 weeks to track progress and update their routine as their alignment improves.
The majority of your correction work happens at home through your personalized daily routine. The clinic visits are for measurement, progress tracking, and routine updates — not for treatments you cannot do yourself.
Long-standing structural imbalances take longer to correct than recent ones — but they absolutely can be corrected. Many of our most successful clients came to us after years or even decades of chronic pain and had tried numerous other approaches without lasting relief.
The key difference with AlignSmart® is that we are addressing the structural root cause, not just managing symptoms. Even deeply ingrained compensation patterns can be unwound with the right correction routine, applied consistently over time.
Absolutely — and we encourage it. AlignSmart® is designed to complement your existing care, not replace it. Many of our clients see their chiropractor, physical therapist, or orthopedic provider alongside their Symmetry program and find that the combination produces better outcomes than either approach alone.
We are happy to share your AlignSmart® report and Symmetry Score with your other providers if you authorize us to do so. Many practitioners find the objective data extremely useful in guiding their own treatment decisions.
Once your alignment has improved significantly, your maintenance routine typically becomes much shorter and less intensive. Think of it like dental hygiene — you don't stop brushing your teeth once your cavities are filled. A brief daily maintenance routine keeps your alignment stable and prevents old patterns from returning.
The goal is for that maintenance to feel like a natural, easy part of your day — not a burden. Most clients who reach their target Symmetry Score spend 10–15 minutes per day on maintenance.
Investment & Coverage
AlignSmart® assessments and corrective programs are currently not covered by insurance. Symmetry for Health operates as a cash-pay practice, which allows us to focus entirely on what is best for your structural health — without the constraints of insurance billing or limited visit approvals.
Many clients find that investing in a root-cause correction program actually reduces their overall healthcare spending over time by reducing the need for ongoing chiropractic, physical therapy, or pain management appointments.
In many cases, yes. Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) can often be used for postural assessment and corrective exercise services. We recommend confirming with your HSA/FSA administrator whether our services qualify under your specific plan.
We are happy to provide an itemized receipt for your records. Please contact us at info@symmetryforhealth.com if you need documentation for reimbursement purposes.
We are happy to discuss pricing and program options with you directly. Because every client's needs are different, we prefer to have a brief conversation to understand your goals before recommending a specific program.
