Frequently Asked Questions

General FAQs

  • Symmetry for Health is a postural alignment and chronic pain relief clinic that focuses on identifying and correcting the root cause of pain using objective measurements and personalized corrective routines—rather than managing symptoms.

  • Most pain treatments focus on where it hurts. Symmetry focuses on why it hurts.

Using the patent-pending AlignSmart Technology, Symmetry measures standing posture against gravity, identifies misalignment, and teaches the client how to correct their own body through daily alignment corrective stretches.

  • AlignSmart® is a patent-pending postural assessment system that objectively measures how your body aligns across three planes of motion. It provides numerical scores that reveal postural imbalance, compensation patterns, and the structural causes of pain.

  • AlignSmart® evaluates posture in:

    • Transverse plane (pelvic tilt, hip elevation, scapula elevation)

    • Frontal plane (side-to-side imbalances, torso and pelvis rotation, and forward displacements of the head, shoulders, and pelvis )

    • Sagittal plane (forward head posture, spinal offsets, external and internal knees, valgus and varus legs, and everted and inverted feet )

Misalignment in any plane forces the body to compensate and can lead to chronic pain.

  • A postural assessment includes:

    • Objective posture measurements (20) using AlignSmart®

    • A numerical score that explains alignment efficiency (0-81 points, 0=great posture)

    • Education on how posture relates to pain

    • A customized corrective plan based on your results

    • Postural photos to show the visual misalignments

    The corrective routine includes:

    • A full demonstration and explanation by a certified AlignSmart Technician to show you how to perform each exercise

    • After measurements to validate the immediate change in structural compensations

    • After photos to show the immediate visual changes in one session

    • Access to the AlignSmart app to support the daily implementation of the corrective routine

  • Many clients notice changes within 2–4 weeks, especially in posture awareness and tension reduction. Long-term correction typically occurs over two to three months, depending on severity, consistency, medical history and lifestyle factors.

  • Item descriptionYes. AlignSmart is built on daily corrective habits. Most routines take 15–20 minutes per day and are designed to empower you to maintain alignment independently.

Consistency—not intensity—is the key to success. Do you brush your teeth daily?

  • No. The exercises are:

    • Isometric and controlled

    • Low-impact

    • Designed to activate intrinsic (structural) muscles

They should not cause pain. Discomfort usually indicates awareness, not injury.Item description

  • The Symmetry program is covered by your HSA or FSA.  Symmetry focuses on corrective, preventative care and is typically a self-pay service. Many clients choose Symmetry because it addresses long-term outcomes rather than short-term coverage.

  • The first step is scheduling a postural assessment. This provides clarity, measurable data, and a personalized roadmap for correction.

Comparison FAQs

  • No. Chiropractic focuses on restoring joint motion through hands-on adjustments. Symmetry focuses on correcting posture via the muscular system so the body stays aligned after adjustments, and with daily reinforcement.  In essence, Symmetry teaches you how to adjust yourself daily.

However, many clients use Symmetry alongside chiropractic care to help adjustments hold longer and for long-term mainenance.

  • Possibly—but often less frequently. As posture improves, many clients find they rely less on ongoing adjustments because their body is no longer pulling itself out of alignment.

  • Physical therapy focuses on restoring movement and strength. Symmetry focuses on correcting static posture before movement.

Posture sets the foundation. When posture is corrected, physical therapy exercises become more effective and results last longer.

Most medical therapies are dictated by what insurance will pay for, thus, the treatments become “pain” or “symptom” focused and not on the entire body as a whole unit around gravity.

  • Yes. Many clients use Symmetry’s AlignSmart system during or after physical therapy to prevent regression and maintain alignment once rehab ends.

  • No. Spine decompression temporarily reduces disc pressure using machines. Symmetry teaches the body how to maintain spinal spacing naturally through alignment and intrinsic muscle activation, with daily reinforcement.

  • Yes. Symmetry is often used after decompression to prevent gravity and posture from collapsing the spine again.

Anyone wanting to improve posture and movement efficiency

  • Because the postural cause was never corrected. Pain is often the final signal of long-term compensation, not the original problem.

  • No. Symmetry is non-invasive and does not rely on medication, injections, or machines. Correction happens through posture-specific movement.  All you need is your own body.

  • Most Symmetry clients have.  We are affectionately referred to as “The Last Resort”!
