"In January 2006 I suffered a back/glute medius injury that prevented me from training and competing in the pole vault.  I attended and competed at UCLA from 1998-2003 and then became a professional pole vaulter out of college.  I currently compete for Adidas and USA track and field, but when I hurt my back I was out for the whole year.  Three months before my glute injury, I had knee surgery and I came back pretty early to create a lot of imbalances in my pelvic region.  No doctor, MRI, or X ray could figure out why my back and glute were in constant pain, and no amount of drug or cortisone shot would take it away.  That was until I met Patrick Mummy, randomly through a friend who swore by his practice and told me he could help me.

I started seeing Patrick in September, 2006 and by the end of week two I already felt 50%  relief from my pain.  Before that I was not able to sit for longer than 30 minutes because it would just ache the whole time.  I was very diligent about doing all the stretches and exercises that he gave me and never missed a day.  My glute continued to get better and I was able to sit through a movie if I wanted.  I waited a few more weeks until I started training again for the 2007 season and Patrick helped me monitor my workouts so I did not jump into things too soon. When I started training hard again, I would get some symptoms, but as soon as I called Patrick, he fixed the problem with a different routine and series of stretches.  I have been pain free for about 3 months now and it has been amazing.  It took a few months to erase the year of bad posture and the other things that caused my injury.  His practice is a life-long treatment because he teaches you how to align your hips and basically adjust yourself from the daily overcompensations that cause pain.

Things such as bad posture, bad shoes or orthodics, weak core muscles, and simply repetitive movements that have taken your body out of its “normal” alignment can really cause pain in the back, hamstrings, glute, ect.  Most people end up seeing their doctor who puts them on anti-inflamatories and pain killers that just put a bandaid over the real cause.  The pain never really goes away and it acts as a chain reaction for more problems to come.  Patrick goes to the root of the problem and fixes it  so that no medicine is needed and eventually the pain goes away.  People are always looking for instant relief, but in the case with Patrick and his treatment, you have to re-train your body to function in a normal way, which could be weeks or even a few months.  But once it feels better, his clients will have learned enough from the experience and the exercises to help themselves if the pain comes back one day from the same causes.

I am very grateful that I met Patrick because I thought this injury was the end of my career.  I am a fighter and I tried everything to work through the pain and train, but my body was in too much pain.  Patrick has helped me continue working towards my dream which is to make the 2008 Olympic Team. I would recommend him not only to other professional athletes, but anyone who has unexplained pain and either sits in a work chair all day or participates in recreational sports."
